CAMBODIA - VIETNAM SOUTH TO NORTH

After breakfast our tour guide will pick you up and our first stop of the day is Angkor Thom, a masterpiece of King Jayavarman VII. Following the occupation of Angkor by the Chams from 1177 to 1181, the new king decided to build an impregnable fortress at the heart of his empire. We begin to visit Bayon Temple. At the exact center of Angkor Thom, this is an eccentric expression of the creative genius and inflated ego of Cambodia’s most celebrated king. Its 54 towers are each topped off with the four faces of Avalokiteshvara (Buddha of Compassion), which bear more than a passing resemblance to the king himself.  We continue to visit Terrace of the Leper King. Along the Terrace of Elephants, originally are used as a viewing gallery for the king to preside over parades, performances and traditional sports. At the southern end lies the Baphuon, once of the most beautiful temples at Angkor, dating from the reign of Uditayavarman 1 in the 11th century.
We continue to visit Ta Prohm "Tomb Raider" fame. Ta Prohm has been abandoned to the elements, a reminder that while empires rise and fall, the riotous power of nature marches on, oblivious to the dramas of human history. Left as it was ‘discovered’ by French explorer Henri Mouhout in 1860, the tentacle-like tree roots here are slowly strangling the surviving stones, man first conquering nature to create, nature later conquering man to destroy.   We journey out to the Mother of all temples, Angkor Wat. Believed to be the world's largest religious building, this temple is the perfect fusion of symbolism and symmetry and a source of pride and strength to all Khmers. Another night in Siem Reap to enjoy the any bar and restaurants of Pub Street.

Today is spent exploring the city of Phnom Penh. We start at the Royal Palace, built in 1866 by the Predecessors of King Norodom, is one of the most impressive colorful Khmer-style Palaces. Continue on to Emerald Buddha Temple, National Museum and Independence monument. We also learn about the dark side of Cambodia and it is more recent turbulent and harrowing history. Visit the Toul Sleng Genocide Museum (S21), ironically a former school, located in a quiet Phnom Penh suburb, this was the infamous Khmer Rouge prison / torture center.
After this we visit Wat Phnom, Central Market and enjoy a cyclo ride along the riverside. This laid-back tour gives us a different perspective of the streets and sights of the city. We will enjoy a cruise for view sunset on the Mekong and Tonlé Sap River (1 hour). Situated at the “Four Arms” where the Mekong meets the Tonlé Sap River before splitting into two branches and Cyclo ride along the riverside in Phnom Penh, Phnom Penh offers the ideal location to discover the mighty Mekong.

Relax with a full day excursion along the tranquil Mekong River. Pick up from hotel at 8:00am and sit back with a relaxing 2-hour drive to My Tho, passing through lush scenery and green rice paddy fields. Along the way we stop to visit a Cao Dai Temple, which is a unique religion of Vietnam. On arrival into My Tho, we board a boat to cruise along the Mekong. The first stop it Xep Canal where you will feel total escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. We cruise through a small canal lined with tropical coconut trees and stop at a local village to disembark and sample their local produce such as honey tea, honey wine, tropical fruit as well as being treated to a traditional music performance. Here you will have the opportunity to take a traditional horse and cart ride. We then swap the cruise boat for smaller rowing boats to reach the other islet where you will enjoy a special Vietnamese lunch with a local family. In the afternoon return to Ho Chi Minh City and spend the evening at your leisure.

My Son is considered as one of South East Asia's best archaeological sites, in the same league as Bagan in Myanmar and Angkor in Cambodia. My Son was once the religious center of the Cham people built from 7th to 13th centuries. Step back in time with a fascinating tour around the ruins with a knowledgeable guide. Back to Hoi An for another evening free at leisure.

08:00AM meet our local tour guide at lobby hotel by bicycle. Our guide, who also is the chef, takes you to visit Hoi An market to buy ingredients for the cooking class. You then to ride to Tra Que village (a short 15minute cycle away.)  You will be welcomed with a special local soft drink - “É” water or local tea. After your welcome, take a short walk around the vegetable garden to see local farmers at work. Begin to learn how to cook local delicacies including:  Banh xeo, “tam huu” spring roll, “Tra Que” spring roll… After your cooking class, enjoy the foods cooked by yourself.

Early morning pickup at 8:00am to journey through lush Vietnamese countryside to stunning Halong Bay, scattered with hundreds of limstone islets as far as the eye can see.  Once on board our traditional junk boat, we tuck in to a delicious seafood lunch while we cruise the emerald waters. In the afternoon we will stop for some water based activities such as swimming, kayaking or taking a rowing boat into smaller islets looking for the local cheeky monkeys that live on the rocks. This morning we continue to sail through the majestic landscape of Halong Bay stopping for a walk around the 'Amazing Cave' full of stalagmites and stalactites. Then we enjoy another buffet lunch on board as we sail back to the harbour. Drive back to Hanoi, arriving at around 5pm. Have the evening free at your leisure in Hanoi. We suggest you visit the Old Town and markets, enjoy some street food and soak up the exciting culture of the Vietnamese capital city.

You meet your guide and start trekking. The first part we will mostly trek downhill Y Lin Ho hamlet. The trek offers some stunning views of the rice terraces, gardens and Fan Si Pan mountain ranges. After going through a suspension bridge, we start walking up to Lao Chai San village.
There we are experiencing the richest traditional culture of Black H’Mong people in the region. The trekking route offers a breathtaking view of vegetable gardens and rice terraces with green mountains rising above. There will be time for visiting with local families and learning about their traditional fiber processing.
After this you continue to Ta Van village (1.200 m) to visit Zay people. Zay is a fairly small minority group of about 38.000 people who live mainly in the mountains in Northwest Vietnam. Ta Van is a small village set within a picturesque valley not far from the northern Vietnamese mountain resort of Sapa. The area is renowned for its colorful ethnic minorities, and Ta Van is home to two such groups.
12.00: Picnic Lunch by the side of the river.
The rest few hours in the afternoon, you will visit the daily activities of local people before car ride returns to Sapa.
