TRAVEL TO SAPA BY TRAIN
Sapa is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Vietnam with mountain town, the beautiful terraced rice fields that cling to the sides of the hill. Sapa is a spectacular place to explore and a great option for those who would like to experience a taste of life in the highlands.
From Ha Noi Capital, customer travel to Sapa by overnight train, depart from Hanoi station during night time, the train arrives at Lao Cai station.
Tickets are sold in 4 classes that get progressively more expensive:
Hard Seat: Simple wooden benches and open windows - no A/C. We'd recommend not taking this on a long journey
Soft Seat: Reclining chairs in an A/C compartment. Although slightly battered looking the seats are fairly comfortable and easy to doze in during daytime trips.
Hard Sleeper: With a thin mattress these beds are a little hard but still not bad, and far more comfortable than a hard seat. There are 6 beds in a cabin.
Soft Sleeper: Though not luxurious these beds are comfortable enough, and there are 4 beds in a cabin
Each train offers a different advantage - you can choose one based on your preference for timing and budget. Generally, it can be divided into three types of cabins: 4-berth cabin, 6-berth cabin and soft-seat cabin. Tourist trains also run VIP cabin where the upper berths are removed, allowing for more space and privacy for just 2 people.
Most visitors choose to get from Hanoi to Sapa by overnight train; it’s more comfortable and safer than a bus or motorbike, and a lot cheaper than hiring a car.
Train travel in Vietnam is reasonably comfortable, with most carriages coming with A/C and some level of onboard entertainment. All trains have a dining car with simple snacks and beer which is a nice place to pass an hour or two, and the sleeper cars are fairly comfortable.
You can book your train tickets online in advance through many webs or through a local agent.
Lao Cai station is about 38 kilometers from Sapa, which takes about one hour going by bus or by car. Normally the bus stop is right in front of Sapa church, but tourists can also ask the bus driver to drop them off at their booked hotel.
