THING TO DO IN THE MEKONG DELTA
The Mekong Delta in southern Vietnam is a vast maze of rivers, swamps and islands, home to floating markets, Khmer pagodas and villages surrounded by rice paddies. Boats are the main means of transportation, and tours of the region often start in nearby Ho Chi Minh City.
The Mekong delta offers many exciting attractions, activities and excursions. Taking a boat across Tien River, through canals, visiting coconut candy factories, fruit orchids on riversides and taking great pictures along the ways, all of these things can create a wonderful boat trip ever in your holidays.
A perfect combination to explore the Mekong delta is bicycle tours and river cruises. During a bicycle tour you will have plenty of opportunities to talk to friendly locals and learn about their daily life and life in general in the Mekong delta, ride along small villages and brick factories and frequently have the opportunity to try fresh fruit at local markets or enjoy a Vietnamese coffee on the river bank.
Listen to traditional Vietnamese music: Listening to a traditional Vietnamese music and singing performance is something we relished after spending hours out on the boat or you can find the ways to houses of artists and listen to them together with locals.
Visit floating markets: One of favorite experiences in Mekong delta that nowhere else have is floating markets.
Cai Rang is the most popular floating market and only a few kilometers from the city center of Can Tho. The Phong Dien market is located not too far from here, south-west of Can Tho.
Cai Be Floating Market is one of the tourist magnets of the delta, located in Tien Giang province. It is smaller than Cai Rang floating market in Can Tho.
These markets are central markets in the delta, where people can buy fruit and vegetables from local production.
