CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION IN VIETNAM

Christmas Day is a public holiday in many of the world's nations. Christmas in Vietnam becomes an important event during a year.
All decorations in Christmas in Vietnam are relatively similar to those in the Western countries. Before Christmas day in Vietnam about a week, Vietnamese people often decorate their houses and companies with Christmas trees and colorful accessories. Along the streets in big cities as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, a large number of Santa Claus costumes, artificial Christmas trees, and decorating things are sold widely.
In Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, people tend to gather at the city center where the cathedral stands and cars are not allowed. Children in Vietnam are greatly excited because they believe in Santa Clause and put their shoes in front of their doors on Christmas Eve, expecting to have their shoes stuffed in with goodies from Santa’s bulging sack on the morning of 25th December.
A special Christmas family meal is traditionally an important part of the holiday's celebration, and the food that is served varies greatly. The menu for the common people traditionally consists of chicken soup, while the well-heeled have turkey and Christmas pudding.
Today, Christmas is one of the major festivals in Vietnam, It is celebrated as the birthday of Jesus Christ, known here as "Kito". The festival is observed here with great gusto despite the fact that Buddhism is the dominant religion in Vietnam and Christians form only a minority.
